An artist who defies categorisation, Thomas Grandi’s work often involves the recontextualisation and reinterpretation of meaning within objects and images. There is an immediacy within his work, too – which expresses itself as a refreshing cultural irreverence and honesty that is not often seen in the Art World. 

The website’s function is as an unrestrictive space for the Thomas Grandi, allowing him to work instinctively without being constrained by an over-polished aesthetic of self-curation. The website includes work spanning 30 years of artistic output and development, including: impulsive doodles, a conceptual art heist (which lead to an international arrest warrant), musical projects, and his more recent large-scale oil pastel works.

The website utilises a loose archive approach, whereby works recombine or reshuffle on each page load, which allowing recontextualised views of Thomas Grandi’s work on each site visit. The timeless but expressive style of Grilli Type’s Alpina TW lends itself to the archival aesthetic while maintaining a strong character that keeps the text from slipping into the background, as only a single size and weight is used throughout the website.
